Gecko Grove Fine Foods prides itself on using local Lockyer Valley produce but sometimes we need to think more globally. We can grow the chilli, ginger, turmeric and garlic needed to make great chutneys but we also need to buy cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, mustard and other spices that are not grown locally or even in Australia.
For hundreds of years countries around the Equator have provided spices to liven up food. At Gecko Grove we travel the world through our cookbooks and need spices from further afield. That’s when we go to Regina’s International Food Emporium in the main Street of Gatton. Regina stocks a wide range of interesting food items. We went for the food but we came back for the friendly service and to support a woman who supports visitors and locals in the Lockyer.
So we were very pleased to see her efforts recognised on ABC Southern Queensland recently.
International ingredients in the Gecko Grove Pantry include:
Allspice, Cloves, Cardamom, Cumin, Cinnamon, Fennel, Fenugreek, Mustard, Paprika, Pimenton, Pepper, Turmeric.
